Short attention span is a serious endemic

[ad_1]

People literally cannot understand more than one sentence at a time. I feel like I’m living in Idiocracy with how often I have to repeat things.

\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_

Me: Gives extensive info and instructions on how to reset the unit before calling a repair man.

Caller: Ok, but is there anything I can do? (last thing they heard was call a repair man…)

\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_

Me: I’m going to transfer you now, just hit 5 for the callback so you don’t lose your place in line and then you’re free to hang up.

Caller: So I hang up now?

\_\_\_\_\_

Me: Can you tell me how many times the red light blinks and how many times the green light blinks?

Them: It just flashes. All the time.

Me: No, there is a pattern to it. It will flash a number of times red and a number of times green. I need you to count those. For example, if the unit blinks once red and once green, that means it’s having a communication error. If the unit blinks 5 red and 6 green, it means something else.

Them: Why can’t you just tell me what’s wrong with it?!

Me: Just count them for me and I can tell you what is wrong with it.

Them: Ok, it’s flashing… now…. now… now…. (Or it’s flashing once every 2 seconds)

Me: \*giving up\* Just call a repair man to come help you.

Them: But what’s wrong with it?!
