"No, YOU listen to me."

Hello everyone.

Today I was officially put on sick leave due to too much stress from my current job at a call center, so I thought I would ‘celebrate’ this by sharing the story of the first time I actually got to tell a customer they were full of shit.

Obligatory English isn’t my language.

I work in the dispute resolution department of a payment service. Anything wrong with your order/purchase, you go to me.

So I had this guy call in who was very upset he hadn’t received his order yet. He explained he wanted his money back NOW because he thought he’d waited too long. Keep in mind it had only been about a week or so since he made this order but anyways.

I check the errand and see that we had actually contacted the store he’d shopped from, about an hour earlier or so, to check for a more exact delivery date.

“Alright sir, I can see here that we’ve actually been in touch with the store today to see what has happened to your order, so I recommend you hold on and we’ll get back to you as soon as we get a response from them!”

“NO! I’ve waited too long for this order! I want my money back TODAY!!”

“okay sir, I can absolutely contact the store again and inform them you no longer want the goods and wish to receive a refund, but I cannot guarantee you’ll get a refund for another week since it takes a few bank days-“

“I DON’T CARE. GET ME MY MONEY NOW OR I’M GONNA CALL THE POLICE AND REPORT YOU GUYS AS A FRAUD!!!”

“Sir, We-“

“NO I WANT THIS SOLVED WITHIN THE HOUR!! GET ME MY MONEY BACK”

Look, I’m a patient person, I can deal with a lot of reasonable requests but I had just about had it with this guy. It was right before my lunch, I was tired, and I don’t want to ruin my break because of some idiot who thinks I’ll do anything because he yells.

“Sir, you need to listen to me. You are NOT our only customer, both we and the store have other clients than you. We can’t stop everything to just serve you!”

“I DON’T CA-“

“No, YOU listen to me now! We can’t drop everything to just help you with this, and even if we could, you still wouldn’t have your money back on the account until in a few days from now! So either you listen, and I’ll help you, or we can finish this conversation right now.”

“…alright. Yeah no you’re right.. Please contact them and say I don’t want the goods. If I haven’t heard from you in a week, can I call you then..?”

“Very well then. Yes, if you haven’t heard from us within a week then you’re more than welcome to call us back.”

I enjoyed my lunch a little extra that day.
