So this happened about 3 to 4 years ago. I work at a credit union and some of the representatives take calls and online chats. I was one of the lucky people who would mostly just take online chats. This one member (we will call J for jackass) chats in and starts off in all caps.
J: WHY DO I HAVE OVERDRAFT FEES ON MY
Me: Thank you for chatting with us, let me get you
pulled up and look into this issue for you.
Surprisingly, he is able to provide all the information and I get him verified pretty quick, about 2 minutes.
J: Now that you wasted my time with all these questions, I want you to refund all 6 of these overdraft fees NOW! There is no reason I that I should have these on my account. I never signed up for YOU to do this on my account.
Me: I understand that you are upset but I will need to review the account to see why you received so many fees. Give me a few minutes please.
Now at this point it should not be a surprise that the member had made several debit card purchases for restaurants and some retailers. Clearly this was his fault and not an error on our end. In order to even overdraft the account he would have signed some paperwork agreeing to the fees and such. I go ahead and find the original document that he signed almost 6 months and he did agree to have it.
Me: Thank you for waiting. I was able to review the account and see that you made these purchases with your debit card. I also found the documents that you did sign stating that you wanted us to pay debit card transactions if it brings you negative and you agree to the fees. Unfortunately, since this is not a credit union error, I can only refund two fees for you as a one time courtesy.
J: YOU ARE LYING!!!! I NEVER SIGNED UP FOR THIS SHIT! YOU WILL REFUND ALL THE FEES FOR ME. I HATE THIS CREDIT UNION! ALL YOU GUYS DO IS CHARGE FEES!!!
Me: Unfortunately, I can only refund the two fees for you. And I would be happy to send you the documents showing your signature.
J: I guess the customer is always wrong and we get screwed out of money! I hate you guys so much! And go ahead and send me that document. Also send me a new one to sign so that I can get out of anymore fees.
Me: *Ignores the first part of his message *I will go ahead and send both documents to your email. Once I have the signed one back I will take you out of overdraft so that your debit card will decline when you do not have the money. Was there anything else I can help you with today?
J: No! And just so you know, once I sign it, I will expect you to respond back stating I am out of overdraft. Do you understand????
Me: Yes sir! I am in the process of sending that out now. Have a good day!
Chat ends. And guess what, he NEVER signs the documents. A few months later he actually chats back in and I get him again. He must have forgotten that I was the original person he chatted with the first time. Because his second chat was complaining about more fees and how no one ever sent him documents to sign. And how the person he chatted with in the past was rude and lied to him. It was very funny, but not so much at the time.
