A tale from a customer.

So I’m actually the customer in this story, but my wife has worked 15 years in/with call centers so I can appreciate the stories.

I had called a benefits line to ask a question and although they couldn’t help me they were nice enough to transfer me and wait with me on the line to help get my question answered. Then the hold music started.

I don’t know the name of the song, but it’s the song that plays when Pee-Wee starts his breakfast machine in the morning. I started out just thinking that’s an odd choice for hold music but whatever. Well soon enough it just kept going and going. And getting louder. By the time the whole band was playing at the end I could barely hear anything.

Me: MAYBE YOU COULD JUST GIVE ME THE NUMBER AND I COULD CALL BACK LATER?

Rep: OKAY! THEIR NUMBER IS:

Me: A reference number?

Rep: THEIR PHONE NUMBER! IT’S 369-

Me: 365!?

Rep: NINE! 369!”

I finally got the number and appreciated her help but man it was weird.
