I work for a software company and this happened a couple of years back. We work with the same clients repeatedly so there are times when you really start to know them.
We get a call from a client asking why their End of day process stopped the night before. Our technician looks at their account and all we can tell is everything just disconnected.
The next few nights we receive the same call and all we can provide is the same answer. After a couple of days the owner calls and we have the following conversation between the (O)wner and out (T)echnician.
O: You need to tell me why this ends every night. This is ridiculous and getting out of control.
T: Well all we can see is a disconnect there is nothing else in the logs.
O: Then you need to stay and watch the system process to tell me what’s happening.
T: What time does the process start (we close at 8pm)
O: It starts at 10 and you need to tell me why your system is doing this.
We agree but only because we are very service oriented. After a bit of chit chat the following happens.
O: YOU STUPID FUCKING BITCH WHAT ARE YOU DOING. (Our technician was female)
T: I’m sorry excuse me?!
O: YOU DUMB BITCH. WHY ARE YOU DOING THAT.
T: What happened? (Why can see that everything disconnected)
O: The dumb fucking cleaning people just unplugged our server to plug in the vacuum.
T: Well it seems we have found the problem.
O: Seems we have. Sorry for wasting your time.
TL;DR Client asked why their processes were stopping. Blamed us. Cleaning people were unplugging the server.
