Haven’t posted much here, but this one happened last week and it’s still bugging me so bad. I work for a utility company for a major US city and we have MANY students who never applied for service in September and are just now getting shut off. Just for clarification, they’ve been living with FREE electric for over 6 months. TL;DR at the bottom, just wanted to get this one off my chest.
I’ll be me, douchey student will be DS.
Me: standard greeting
DS: You shut my power off and no one has been here to turn it back on.
Me: (we have a restoration goal of end of the next business day, this kid had called in his turn on around 3pm, it was now 6.15pm and techs go home at 530) I’m sorry to hear that, but everyone is out of the field, it will be on by end of business tomorrow.
DS: You people told me it would be on today. I need it on now.
Me: I’m sorry someone gave you the wrong information, we don’t guarantee same day service. It will be on tomorrow.
DS: YOU SHUT ME OFF FOR NO REASON AND I NEED POWER. IM A COLLEGE STUDENT I CANT DO MY HOMEWORK, DO YOU WANT ME TO DROP OUT?!
Me: It looks like you moved in September 1st and never called and haven’t been paying for your service so we shut you off. We can’t provide service without payment.
DS: YOU PEOPLE JUST SHUT ME OFF FOR NO REASON WITH NO WARNING TURN IT ON.
Me: (at this point, I’m shaking angry, because not only is he yelling at me, but his room mate is mocking me in the background and they’re both laughing like cocky assholes) It looks like we sent you two letters to apply, one in September and one in December and you never called.
DS: I NEVER GOT THE LETTERS. WHOS FAULT IS THAT. NOT MINE.
Me: It’s not our job to deliver your mail, that’s up to the USPS. Sorry you didn’t receive them. It’ll be on tomorrow.
DS: Tomorrow morning. I highly suggest you have it on by tomorrow morning.
Me: (is that a threat, what) It’ll be on tomorrow, I can’t guarantee a time, sorry.
DS: IF ITS NOT ON IN THE MORNING I AM GOING TO SUE YOU PEOPLE. YOU SHUT ME OFF FOR NO REASON. I REALLY FUCKING SUGGEST YOU HAVE IT ON IN THE MORNING.
Me: I already told you, I can’t guarantee a time, and we shut you off because you’ve been using our service for free for 7 months. If there’s nothing else I can help you with I am going to disconnect this call.
DS: YOU CAN TURN MY FUCKING SERVICE ON.
Me: Have a great night. click
TL;DR: asshole college student gets pissed that we shut him off for not paying for 7 months, accuses me of wanting him to drop out because one night of no power will apparently ruin his college career, then threatens to sue.
