I hate being asked to make small talk to fill dead air, because I clearly know that the customer hates small talk and it will only piss them off

Seriously who the fuck thought making small talk was a good idea? Especially with how americans are (No offense to my fellow americans) about their personal life and privacy? I’m not even a week into taking calls and I’m already wondering if I’m going to make it further than a few months, I do hope since I actually like the job, but bloody fuck I literally have to hide the fact that I’m not american and I am asked to do things that clearly have the opposite effect of what they claim to achieve.
