A woman called in annoyed that a bank was asking her to pay the entirety of her loan payment. She said she wrote a check, but when she wrote it she was 10 cents off. She claimed that she didn’t need to pay the last 10 cents because “I’m not writing a check for 10 cents, that’s stupid.”
me: “Ma’am, this is an office line for a vehicle manufacturer, you’ve reached [company]. We’re not a bank.”
her: “But the 10 cents is for the last payment on my car. Just drop it, I’m not wasting a check for 10 frikkin’ cents.”
……that’s not how any of this works.
me after a good few seconds of trying to get my head around her request: “If you’re having trouble paying your bill, I can send you to our customer service line, but we don’t do any financial stuff at this phone number.”
her: “I payed my bill. All I’m asking is that you drop the 10 cents so I don’t have to waste a check, the stamp to mail it in is worth 5 times as much.”
So you’re out less than a dollar because you didn’t pay your bill in full? I told her that I couldn’t help her and that her only option was customer service.
her: “Really? Ugh. That’s going to take soooo long… Will I be compensated for any late fees from the bank?”
I couldn’t even respond, I just transferred her.
