A new perspective

I have been working as a telecom call center rep for almost a year now, in the department for my second(learned) language, English being my first. I admit that growing up, I would get frustrated along with a lot of people with the difficulty parsing the strong accents of reps who tended to work in this service in my country. Now, after almost a year of having to explain to customers that, yes, I am in fact speaking your language and no I can’t transfer you to a native speaker, I have a lot of respect for the patience and understanding my perfectly bilingual collegues have with customers who who are like how I used to be. It’s hard working in your second language, whether that’s English or another.
