When we first closed down all of our stores a few weeks ago due to COVID-19, pretty much all of the customers I interacted with were nice and reacted positively to the decision. Lately though I have had to deal with more and more salty customers for our online orders, which is quite draining, especially when working from home and everything runs extremely slow. The following interaction was my first anti-store closure customer, on chat.
Me: Me, Customer: Reagan Jr
Me: Hello how can I help you today?
Reagan Jr: Why is (our company) in Santa Monica closed but (other company in same market) in Los Angeles open?
Me: Thanks for your question! We have decided to close down our stores to help against the spread of the Coronavirus. Here is a link to a statement from our CEO on why we closed down our stores. (link)
Reagan Jr: Unless everyone working there is 81 and they have underlying health issues, closing the store is STUPID!
Reagan Jr: Just thought you might like to know what a customer, who is 73 by the way, who has some common sense thinks.
Reagan Jr: Every time someone has a cold JUST CLOSE THE STORE FOR 6 MONTHS UNTIL EVERYBODY IS ALL BETTER – REALLY STUPID!!!
Me: We truly appreciate having you as a long time customer of our company and I am sorry that this inconveniences you, but we are just trying to do what is best for the health of others. I will pass your feedback along, is there anything else I can help with today Reagan Jr?
Reagan Jr: That’s it, I’m hoping you aren’t closed because the Santa Monica communists ordered you to close, then it would be time to move to the lesser communist L.A.
*Reagan Jr has disconnected*
Well Reagan Jr., the reason we closed down our stores is to help make sure that boomers like you don’t get infected and DIE. The efforts might be futile for him though.
