Sir, this isn’t your network… or country

I had a call today that went something like this.

Me: Hi its Wikwoo from your wireless department at (insert large Canadian carrier) can I get your name please?

cx: Yeah its (name)

At this point the software hadn’t brought up his account so I asked for his acc. number and searched manually. Nothing. Decided to search by name and address.

Me: Whats your address?

cx: (address) Florida.

I thought it was a little odd but customers are allowed to have a US billing address so I kept searching.

Me: …I can’t seem to find your account.

cx: Ok let me explain my problem while you’re looking – I went into a retail store and they gave me an offer to buy out my phone, I want to take it and they said I could do it over the phone.

Being very confused I decided to just make conversation.

Me: What city was the store in?

cx: Palm Beach.

Me: ???????? What carrier are you with?

cx: Sprint, isn’t that you guys?

Me: Sir, this is (huge canadian carrier), were a carrier up in Canada.

cx: ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!

Me: …Yeah. I have no idea why the sprint store gave you this number.

cx: OK WELL I GUESS I’M GOING BACK THERE WTF IS WRONG WITH THAT STORE??

Me: Ok bye. takes 20 seconds to hang up and I’m not allowed too

My question is – Why the fuck did the Sprint store in PALM BEACH give this guy the phone number to a Canadian cell phone carrier?
