"…You are talking to a human being" The irony

I work at a payment processing center for 3rd party car warranties. The customer is past due for her May 1st payment.

Me after verifying info: How can I help you?

Cust: I made a payment with my agent on May 1st and I wanted to verify if you guys got it.

Me: Yes we did receive that payment but it looks like you were behind on your payments so you still owe us for May 1st.

Cust: You’re not listening to me. I made a payment on May 1st. You need to realize… You’re talking to a human being.

Me: ……I heard what you said but you still owe us for May since you were behind on your payments. Back in Apri….

Cust interrupting: Transfer me to someone nicer.

Me: …You are free to call back and get someone else.

*Cust hangs up

How does somebody go from 0 to 60 in being condescending like that?

Sorry, just needed to vent. I can take angry people yelling over unauthorized payments on their accounts. That at least makes sense.

This lady though was telling me I need to listen all because she didn’t listen to me in the first place. And on top of that, she accuses me of not treating her like a human being. How far up your own ass do you need to be before you start smelling your own shit?
