Is it a compliment it an insult?

I work at a call center, we pretend to be Financial Institution, various credit unions and banks. They hire us to do so and we are the insurance services department of whatever FI pops up on the phone.

Anyway, I get a call from a CU in California. The member got a letter about insurance. Near the end of the call, he asks me where I’m from.

We are told we can say the state or if they ask if we are in San Antonio, we are (we are not).

I told him Texas. He goes “Ah, that explains the speech impediment”

I got a little mad, nobody insults Texas on my watch. I told him “Being from California, you have no right to talk about speech impediments”

He then told me my accent was “cute”.

So. Yeah. I dunno.

‘Oh, we don’t use titles’

Customers expecting me to psychically know which phone they want and waive all cost (“My contract is done, what will RedCompany do for me?”) and give them discounts and things that are physically impossible to do
