Well I guess you don’t want me to pay you then!

I get this call at least once a day.

Customer: Yes I’m calling to make a payment.

Me: Great let me just verify your account…and how would you like to pay today?

C: Credit card. It’s already on there.

Me: Alrighty and that’s the Visa ending in xxxx?

C: That’s the one.

Me: (Runs payment and it bounces. Every time a payment bounces literally all it says is ‘Declined’. I don’t get a detailed reason of why it’s bouncing) I’m sorry sir but it declined.

C: What?! That’s impossible try it again.

Me: (This literally never works but I always do it if they ask) Sorry it declined again. Do you have another card?

C: THAT CARD WORKS. Why is it declining?!??

Me: I do not have access to that information, you’ll have to call your bank. It could be a number of things-

C: No it works you need to try it again.

Me: Sir it’s just going to keep declining…

C: THIS IS RIDICULOUS WHY WON’T IT WORK?!!!!!

Me: I. DON’T. KNOW. You need to contact your bank. Do you have another card you would like to use?…

C: NO THAT’S MY ONLY CARD. GUESS YOU JUST DON’T WANT ME TO PAY YOU THEN!

Me: It’s declining…if you just call y-

C: I’M NOT CALLING MY BANK. YOU CAN EXPLAIN TO YOUR BOSS WHY I’M NOT PAYING MY BILL BECAUSE THAT CARD WORKS. GOOD BYE.

Literally at LEAST once a day this happens. How do people expect a merchant to know why their card isn’t working?! 9 times out of 10 when they call back either they were overdrawn or they fell for some ridiculous scam that froze their card.

"Well, it’s an American Express credit card – wouldn’t expect you to know anyway"

That’s not how any of this works
