Here’s a story from my collection days in TV service. I call a customer who is 45 days past due. He informs me that times are tough. He got laid off two weeks ago.
I express some empathy, and then I look at what he’s subscribed to. Two weeks ago, he upgraded his services to the most expensive package, and he also added the Playboy Channel.
I wanted to ask how his job search was going, but I already knew the answer and I of course am not supposed to be sarcastic on the phone. I suggested that he downgrade his services and he said he would think about it. Yep.
