Why is it customers don’t seem to be able to answer questions directly?!?

I work technical for mobile network so diagnostics is step by step. Answer to question1 dictates which question is asked next and so on.

Yet very rarely does the customer give the answer to the direct simple question. Instead you get their whole life story non of which is relevant, then they whine about how long this is all taking!!!

Had a call just now, should have been less than 5 minutes start to finish… easy fix, they pressed a setting on the phone, lasted almost 40 minutes!!

Infuriating!
