Math is difficult, brain go brr

So I work for a bank call center, luckily I mostly take calls from other reps now, but the following is a tale from when I still took primarily customer calls.

Older man calls in asking for his balance, which I give to him, assuming it’ll be a nice, normal, short call. Oh, this balance is wrong, he says. I go back and repeat his latest transactions for him, and he still insists that this balance must be wrong and the bank is stealing money from him. I pause, bewildered. I ask him what balance he has in his records, and what date he has that balance for, hoping that maybe we can track down the discrepancy.

He blows up at this point, insisting still that the bank, and me myself personally, are stealing money from him, and he doesn’t need to tell me what balance he has, because the balance I have is wrong. I let him rant and rave for a few minutes, before my brain shuts off and I go, well sir, I don’t mind going through your previous transactions with you to make sure our records match up with yours.

“I KNOW HOW TO DO MATH UNLIKE YOU, YOU F*ING R*TARD. I’M GOING TO MARCH IN AND TAKE MY REMAINING MONEY OUT OF MY ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU F*ERS STEAL ANY MORE OF IT AND I’M GOING TO PUT IT IN MY MATTRESS WHERE I KNOW IT’S SAFE.” *click*

To his credit, he did close his account, and he was not missed.
