I do hotel reservations (remotely from home) for a national chain.
I end up helping a lot of people with driving directions because it’s so easy to do and hey, why not give someone a hand? I had google mapped directions for an elderly woman to get her to her location for the night, fleeing hurricane Irma (and it wasn’t even our hotel–she was staying at our place the next night).
A woman called tonight, “Where is city X?” “Ma’am, what city is that by?” “I don’t know.” So I looked it up. “Our nearest property is in XYZ.” “I don’t want to know that. I just want to know how far it is from X to B.” I have to travel between those 2 cities for work.” This went on for 10 minutes, with my trying to tie her driving to and from work to our nearest location.
I was this close to telling her very nicely to google it herself (which at that point, I don’t think I would have gotten in trouble for) when she said, “Thanks,” and hung up.
I guess I should just be glad she thanked me.
I wanted to put my fist through the wall.
