“I know this is not your fault BUT…”

The second I heard this line (before this rude person even let me finish my opening sentence) I knew I was going to regret not taking the call before. This dude had some issues with the bank I work for (we’re outbound for them, so we don’t call anyone, we just explain contracts). So right off the bat this dude starts berating me on how the bank wronged him, how much we annoyed him and how could we dare to write him and not his lawyer. By the time I got him to tell me his contract number my shift was technically already over but okay. Looked him up, there was indeed a mistake made by our computers. I apologized for that and wanted his name, adress and birth date to confirm it’s really him. He argued for another 3 minutes that he wouldn’t give ME this information. So at this point I had two options: Connect him to the department he would have to talk to anyways or hang up. Stupid me, I connected him. Usually we’re supposed to go back to the call after 20sec. if the department doesn’t answer but I couldn’t. Until I had to after around two minutes. Qeue him berating me for my incompetence. I gave him the direct number for the department and like that he just hung up.

I have never left the office this quickly and abruptly, not wanting my collegues to see me crying my eyes out. Thank godness for my car and the three stops I had to make during my way home because I don’t want to cause any accidents.

I’m starting to think I’m not made for this job
