I just activated my debit card via phone. During the phone call, the automated recording transferred me to a call center somewhere on the other side of the world, judging by the accent of the person who answered. I could also hear lots of commotion in the background, with dozens of people talking at once. The details of this call are not the subject of this post; I am curious about who it is that these banks are employing for after-hours phone calls on their 24/7 phone lines.
Is it possible that these same call centers who do legitimate work for the big banks during the day also operate as scam call centers at other times of the day? If so, should we be more vigilant about providing all of our banking details to these people in order to, for example, activate a debit card?
