do some people give there number as.

456-7890
and the area code is 123

Why do they feel the need to give it to me in a way that forces me to correct what I was written? Instead of just giving me their number normally?

kind of a small complaint but it annoys me to no end

Is it really that hard to just say 123–456–7890?
