I’ve told this story a couple times in comments a long time ago so if it sounds familiar, that’s probably why. I worked at a foot ferry service from “Portland” to “Redmond” (not actual city names). I was working next to the people who answered calls and overheard (and employee told story afterwards) the following conversation:
Larry (not real name): Hello, thank you for calling (company name), this is Larry, how may I help you?
Customer: Hi, is this the car ferry from Portland to Redmond?
Larry: No sir, there is no car ferry from Portland to Redmond, our ferry is a passenger only ferry.
Customer: But it says you guys have a car ferry right here on my map!
Larry: Well sir, when when was your map made?
Customer: …1999
Larry: Well, that would be the issue sir.
Customer grumbles and then hangs up. About 10 minutes later, Larry’s phone rings again.
Larry: Hello, thank you for calling (company name), this is Larry, how may I help you?
(same) Customer: Hi, is this the car ferry from Portland to Redmond?
Larry: Sir, there was no car ferry from Portland to Redmond 10 minutes ago, and there is not one now.
Gotta love those customers who think getting a different employee will get a different result, lol /s
