most insane customer I ever spoke with

[ad_1]

This happened years ago but my calls have been insane today and it made me think of this.

I work as technical support for a major cellular service provider. The call came in and started out pretty normal. Customer was having problems with making and calls. Had bad call quality. Etc. Typical stuff.

The lady was reasonably friendly and was following instructions. But the longer the call went on the more… off… things got. Her comments became increasingly random. She seemed to have trouble understanding simple directions that mere moments ago were not difficult.

Eventually the things she was saying got… weird… started taking about how the government was tracking her.. and there were viruses on her phone that were infecting her other appliances like her TV and microwave, which were not ‘smart’v devices mind you (I asked), put there by organized crime (unspecified group).

Before long I realized I was talking to a crazy person. And because I couldn’t remove the government trackers and viruses from her -flip phone- she asked (surprisingly politely) to talk to my manager.

Manager took over call. Warned him what he was dealing with to which he rolled his eyes like “yeah right”.

As the call went on he got very few words in. I could only hear his end of the conversation. But his eyes got wider and wider. I later learned she had gone completely off the rails about how voices were coming through the phone lines (like, overhead cables) and saying unspecified horrible things to her. Eventually my manager got her to accept buying a different device and life went on.

After the call he said, “Well, you tried to warn me…”
