This is definitely not that interesting but I’ve done something I’ve never done before. I talked back. Calls have been back to back less than 10 seconds between calls. I’m fucking exhausted, this is toward the end of my shift.
This person called in and wanted me to look up a provider. I said okay, what’s the providers name. She was like “oh wait a minute I lost my list” she spent 5 minutes looking for this paperwork with the providers name on it. When she returned she realized she had the wrong papers so I held on. She finally found them. She had a very raspy voice so it was hard to understand her. When she spelled the providers name, I searched it and nothing came up. She kept repeating that it was a clinical social worker, and I said I heard her the first time but since nothing was coming up I would need to do it manually. Eventually, I asked her to repeat the last name spelling to ensure accuracy, she got so annoyed. She literally lectured me.
“Ma’am you need to do a better job of listening, this is what you get paid to do. I don’t know what you’re doing but you need to pay attention. I don’t like repeating myself, so you need to listen this time and find another job if you can’t manage.”
She said it in the most condescending lecture-like way. So I said fuck it, mentally. “No ma’am, that is the only thing I’ve asked you to repeat. You’ve spent the last 10 minutes looking for papers with the name of this therapist on it, when you should’ve already had that information in front of you before you dialed this number. You wasted 10 minutes of my time, but you’re so bothered that I asked you to take 3 seconds of your time to repeat a 7 letter name to ensure accuracy and give you the best results. I do my job very well,and if I need help I certainly wouldn’t ask you. Your provider is out of network,I hope you have a wonderful evening.
