Heard an 18 year old caller’s dad screaming at him and I’m still shocked by how toxic it was

So this kid called in to check on his insurance claim, he didn’t have his claim number and sounded a little nervous so I just asked him to spell his name so I could search it.

Nothing came up and I asked if it could be under another name, and he said “uh…” and asked someone else, and then I heard a man in the background say “just give me it” and the voice on the other end turned into this nice older man, probably his dad. He apologized and said the policy was his son’s, but he told me his name, so I plugged that in and the claim came up. He read out a policy number and it was the one in front of me, so I was like okay cool this is the one. Idk why he thought it was under his son.

So he hands it back to the son, and I start to ask another question when I hear the dad change into some asshole and start screaming at the son about how fucking stupid he is, how he can’t do anything correctly, etc., pretty much everything you shouldn’t say to your kid. At one point he even called him a f*g**t and my mouth dropped.

I made sure to tell the kid I couldn’t find his name initially because the system has his last name spelled differently, and that the dad is in fact the main name on the file. I hope it made him feel a little better.

I can’t imagine how badly this dad treats his son on the daily. And he sounded so NORMAL when he was on the phone. Still thinking about it 10 hours later.
