Am I on the way out?

[ad_1]

WFH for a very large bank. I’ve had off and on connection issues from pretty much the first week. I’ve been there since April of this year. I can be connected to systems and softphone anywhere from 15 min to a full shift. Never know day to day. When the connection drops, I can be off from 30 seconds to 15 hours. When I call the IT dept, they just say restart and go on your way. That hasn’t helped anything at all. I have invested a good amount of money trying to fix this on my end. New router, had a contractor come in and run all new cable through out the house, new ethernet cables.

This had gotten more stable to where I could at least do the majority of my shift. It started again Wednesday of last week. I was again told to call IT. The tech actually did more than have me restart the computer. He took remote control and started going through files. Only to find my current version of the VPN software was outdated and corrupted. Then went to find the actual file to the VPN and said it wasn’t even installed on my machine. He said I have been running off a shell (whatever that means) this entire time. He said he would open a ticket and have the new version of the VPN pushed to me overnight. Again, this was last Wed. He said connect the VPN and let it stay connected all night and showed me how to open the software center, find the VPN and update it, when I have the update button.

Needless to say, I didn’t get an update button the next day. My manager told me to call IT and touch base with them. This tech told me they do not have the version that I need in that tier of support but that they would escalate and have then call me and they could load it. Well, it’s now been 4 days and no ne has called. I called back Saturday and asked about this. The tech said I just have to wait for a call back, or for it to be pushed from wherever. The issue I am having aside from this, is the being frozen out by my manager. I’ve emailed. left messages giving updates etc. Total silence. I feel like I am being pushed out due to circumstances beyond my control. It’s never a good sign to be totally ignored in a situation such as this. Side note, I am not paid for technical down time, my end or not. I’d expect a bit more urgency since this is my livelihood.

On the bright side, it has forced me to see what other jobs are out there. Jobs that pay more than I am making now, much better hours and less phone time. Already had two interviews today with an insurance company and a credit union. I love the bank I work for and wouldn’t otherwise leave but again, I feel they prefer I just go away.

Update: Went in to check my email and have a message from IT to contact them through Teams when I start my shift so they can ‘get it fixed’. Even though my manager didn’t respond to me, she must have jumped someone to get this far, since I had been waiting for a callback since Friday. We will see what they do and if they are all the sudden able to fix it.

Update 2: When I went to log on, the IT tech was no longer there. I did get an email from them saying that they attempted to call me and the phone didn’t ring. Then showed the number they attempted and said, give us the correct number. Well, the number they gave was the correct number. Plus the fact that they hit me up on Teams at 11:30AM and I explicitly told them twice my shift was 3:30PM to midnight CST. I don’t think they pay much attention.
