First time working at a call center in the UK. I sometimes get callers asking to place my accent. When I mention it’s Malaysia I often get complimented on my English and some even spoke Malay to me! One 84yo ex marine who was stationed in Brunei in the 60’s even mentioned his time on the East Island and wishes he had the chance to return as he missed the people and the food. Those are the best days and gave me patient and motivation to deal with trickier callers. It never fails to warm my heart and reassured that my accent is not a hinder in my ability to help callers solve their problems.
