I recently got a job working in a call center. It’s not my first time working in one, but I did forget how terrible people can be. Had the following exchange earlier.

M: Hello, thank you for calling, [Company], my name is Tesla, how may I help you?
C: Yes, my name is [Customer], I just received my items and one of them doesn’t fit. It’s too big, I got a size 12 and I need a size 10.
M: I’m sorry that happened. Unfortunately I’m only able to place orders but I can get you over to customer service and they will be happy to help you with that.
C: [Annoyed tone] This is the orders department isn’t it?!
M: Yes ma’am, but I am new and am only able to place orders. I can’t help you wi…
C: Well I wanna place an order then!
M: Yes, I’d be happy to help you with that. Can I get the item number please?
C: Yeah it’s [Item number]
M: Thank you di…
C: Am I going to have to pay shipping both ways then?
M: I’m sorry?
C: To return the item do I have to pay shipping.
M: I’m sorry ma’am I wouldn’t know the answer to that but you can ask them after your order when I get you to customer service.
C: [Proceeds to start swearing and yelling at me.] Paraphrasing here but she called me stupid and useless, told me I should be happy to have a job and that if I didn’t want to work I shouldn’t of shown up today, then kept repeating she wanted to place her d**n order.
M: Ma’am I’m trying to help you but if you keep swearing at me I’ll have to end the call.
C: Then take my order.
M: I’m trying to did you want maroon or bla…
C: Still yelling at me.
M: I’m really sorry I can’t answer your question I can only… Look if you keep yelling I will end this call.
C: Definity still yelling at me and not letting me ask her for her color option or get much words in edgewise.
M: [Interrupting her] Because you can’t stop yelling and be nice I’m hanging up now. [End call]
I was shaking afterwards I was so upset. If the person you are talking to says they can’t help they can’t help. We are out here doing the best we can. I only place orders. I don’t take payments, I don’t do anything with returns, previous orders, or missing orders. That’s all customer service.
