A brief letter to a former boss

Dear Former Boss:

I was so excited when I got the chance to move into a position within your team. I saw this as a chance to expand my knowledge, and gain additional skills that would benefit both my career path, and the company that I have always been pleased to work for.

What I got, instead, was a crash course into how to NEVER EVER EVER manage a team.

I got to see what it looks like when a short tempered man child with anger issues and a fondness for micromanaging is given full reign over an entire department, with little to no oversight or accountability.

I got to see what happens when that man child is thwarted in even the smallest of ways, and how fun and educational it is to see a grown man throw a toddler sized tantrum in front of his staff.

I got to learn the true meaning of the term ‘pissing on your corner’ as an illustration of how NOT to co operate with other departments.

I got to witness how one person can alienate and disenfranchise an entire team of industry professionals, in a few easy steps, and over a short period of time.

I got to understand why some positions are proverbial revolving doors, with a pattern of constantly hiring, firing, and re hiring, over and over and over again, with never time for the employees to get up to speed on procedures before they have either had enough of your shit and quit, or they make you feel threatened enough to kick them out before they do anything about your malfeasance.

So, thank you. Thank you for providing me with a valuable life lesson, in how to never be a boss myself, how to stand up for myself when I am faced with a toxic department head, and how sometimes, all the money in the world can’t make up for a shitty job that makes you feel sick to your stomach every morning.

Sincerely,

YANTBoMA
(You are not the boss of me anymore)
