I offended someone by wishing them a happy holiday season.

A month ago, but I never remembered to post this until now.

I work in an insurance and customer service call center. Most calls are people paying their bills, finding more information about our benefits, changing cars and home upgrades to their policies, etc. You get the crazy calls, the angry calls, the sweet calls, and the calls that last 30 minutes, but could be completed in 5.

I cannot remember what this man called in for, and frankly it’s irrelevant. He was an older man and very kind. I helped him out and he told me how courteous I was. I ended the call by wishing him a Happy Holidays, because I am an inclusive person who doesn’t celebrate Christmas myself… This man responded “NO! I celebrate CHRISTMAS! Do not let politics get to you. I celebrate Christmas. Not any other holiday this time of year.” I just said “Alright sir, I hope you have a Merry Christmas!” I told my colleagues and they said I should probably avoid saying anything but Have A Good Day next time. Note taken.
