Be nice to your call centres, they may be nice back

To all you people who call up to big corporation call centres:

Being nice gets you ahead in the world. Same applies to call centres. Today I will recount 2 separate tales both times I was nice and got extra things

So let’s start with company A, I’ve been using their music service for about 2 years, been paying for a base music package but recently my plan was about to end. So I’m scrolling though and see a new member offer for 70 or 80% off a year plus a free smart speaker. So I call company A, and nicely ask about this offer seeing if it’s just for new members (obviously it is). I sprinkle in a few oh damns and ask if there’s anything similar for current members. This angel is like let me try this code, and BOOM! The offer works, I thank her and wish her a good day. If I had yelled I don’t think she might have tried.

So later I try to get that smart speaker, find out there’s an issue on company b’s end where the code isn’t working correctly, no big deal. So I chat with the guy and say this code ain’t working right, no yelling just saying I must have entered it in wrong or something, supervisor gets involved because we can’t fix it, and somehow this supervisor is the second angel of the day and just gives me a second smart speaker because of the issue I had. Obviously I thank him profusely and wish him a good day.

So if your reading this, don’t be a dick, your call centre folk will appreciate it. They deal with dickheads all day, simple human decency will get you farther
