When customers don’t pay their bill and expect you to keep providing a service

Caller: why did you shut off my phone?

Me: I’d be happy to look into that for you. What’s your account number?

Caller: idk my account number! Just tell me why you shut off my phone!

Me: I’m sorry that your phone isn’t working but I can look into it for you if you can provide some info-

Caller: rants about how we should know the info based on the number on the caller id and eventually provides the account number

Me: looks here like the account is 60 days past due. (We normally shut off service after 30 days and they were missed in the batch of shut offs the month prior)

Caller: I call in every month to pay my bill so idk what you’re talking about!

Me: the checks you sent us were rejected by the bank. We tried to call you, we sent an email, and we sent a letter in the mail.

Caller: well that’s fucking bullshit! Your company is stealing my money! Turn my goddamn phone on or I’m calling the police!

Me: secretly wishing they would I am really sorry this is happening but as soon as we receive the payment we can turn the phone back on.

Caller: fine I’ll just cancel the damn service and I’ll tell everyone that you’re all thieves up there

Today they called to pay their bill in full.
