Had a customer try to get a refund on the delivery fee. I honestly had a good laugh with how calmly angry he was.
Guy: Yeah, I was charged for delivery, but I qualified for free delivery. Please refund me the delivery fee.
Me: I’ll be happy to look into this. Ah, I see why you were charged. Your order did not meet the minimum for free delivery. Free delivery is for orders $50 or more. Your order was shy about $6.
Guy: But I always get free delivery.
Me: Your last two orders were over $50. So yes, you did get free delivery on those. But the orders under have delivery fees.
Guy: Well, that’s just not good business. “OTHER BUSINESS” always gives me free delivery. I just thought you did, too. Don’t you match with competitors?
Me: No, we do not. We only honor the sales and coupons we offer. We send them by email and post them online.
Guy: Look, I’m not trying to be a hard-ass, I’m just saying. That’s just not right. “OTHER BUSINESS” gives free delivery on orders $40. You should honor that. You’ll have more business honoring that.
Me: I’ll gladly send your feedback to my manager for review. If our minimum for free delivery changes, we’ll be sure to update it online.
Guy: So are you going to give me free delivery?
Me: For orders $50 or more, sure!
Guy: But not this order…I don’t see the difference in $10, but fine. Keep it. Have a good day.
Note: Had he been like a few cents (maybe a dollar) away, we would have given it to him.
