"Thank you for your service"

I work for a tv shopping channel call center. We are deemed “essential “. We are not, I assure you.

Yesterday I had 2 different callers thank me for my service.

Uh, no. I’m not doing anything remotely heroic. I’m taking a paycheck. I’m not a medico, not a grocery worker, not anything but an order taker.

They should not get to feel better about the crappy purchase by thanking me as they would a veteran.

I know they might be lonely and some are genuinely glad to talk to me and that’s fine. But “thank you for your service”, just no.
