A few years ago I worked for a company that set up wellness checks for employees at their jobs. Sometimes our number would show up in the caller ID when a different department called them to tell them the results of the tests. So we often got people “returning” calls that didn’t originate from us.
Me: Thank you for calling (client), my name is Gwynforred, to better assist you may I please have the name of your employer?
Caller: NO YOU MAY NOT. WHAT IS THIS REGARDING?
Me: Um, ma’am, you called me.
(Then she hung up.)
In all honesty I probably deserved that response.
