Invasive Question

Hi, I’ve never posted here and I’m also on my phone. I work at Large Corp and got an internal transfer from an offshore agent.

Agent: “Hi, person requested someone from the US”

I take the call.

Me: “Hi. I’m Agent’s colleague. Can I have Info—“

Person, interrupting me: “Are you in the US?”

Me: “Yes.”

Person: “Are you American?”

Me: “I’m located in the US… Can I ple—“

Person: “Where are you from?”

Me: “I’m located in x area”

Person: “How am I supposed to believe you?”

Me: “If you google Large Corp operation centers, you’d be able to see that there is this one located in x location, which is where I am at. Can we please discus—“

Person: “You don’t sound American. Where did you grow up?”

Me: “I’m sorry?”

Person: “Where did you grow up? Answer me. “

Me: “Sir/M’am, that does not pertain to this call and I’m not going to share my personal information at this time, please respect that.”

Person: “That’s not a personal question I just want to know where you grew up”

Me: “I’m not going to tell you”

Person: “I don’t see why not. That sounds like something a foreigner would say. Why can’t you just tell me?”

Me: “Because it has nothing to do with x. If you aren’t going to verify x I’m not going to continue this conversation”

Should I have told them?
