Backstory: I work in a call center that handles many different types of clients. One such client had members that needed to complete a task on our site by Sept 1. There were several notices sent, the last being 2 weeks before the deadline.
Me= Me HL= Hurricane Lady
Me: Thank your for calling Client Name, my name is Me. How can I help you today?
HL: Yes I got a charge today and I want to know why!
Me: I’d be happy to look into that for you. May I have your first and last name
HL: first name hurricane last name lady
Me: Ok, can you verify your address to make sure I have the right account?
HL: verified address
Me: Thank you, yes it looks like you completed the form after the deadline. Once we’ve verified everything is correct on the form you will no longer be charged.
HL: This isn’t fair. I didn’t know about this until 2 days before the deadline and there was a hurricane!
Me: We sent out 90 Day, 60 day, 30 day notices as well as an email 2 weeks prior to the deadline.
HL: I was on vacation and this notice is dated Aug 30 or 31. And there was a hurricane
We didn’t have any notices dated that late as the deadline was Sept 1
Me: I’m not sure why you would have only gotten a notice 2 days before as we sent notices 90 days, 60 days, 30 days and 2 weeks prior to the deadline. There’s nothing else I can do. As I stated you will not be charged once the form has been verified.
HL: But there was a hurricane and I was on vacation! I can’t control a natural disaster!!
Me: I’m sorry Hurricane Lady, but the hurricane did not prevent anyone else from completing this task on time.
HL: I think this is ridiculous! click
Side note: HL did not live in an area impacted by the hurricane 🙄
